A replacement milk drier is to be built at the Aurivo Dairy Ingredients site, according to planning documents submitted to Roscommon County Council this month. A decision is due in March.

The proposed drier will have a capacity to produce 5t of milk powder per hour. It will use a new 5MW gas burner and occupy nearly 2,400 sq metres of floor space over four stories.

The development is part of a €5m upgrade announced by Aurivo last year to allow for the production of more advanced ingredients at Ballaghaderreen, including infant formula products. Chief executive Aaron Forde said at the time that there were no plans to increase capacity, which was sufficient to meet the expected increase in milk supply.
