ICBF data shows that calf prices have held steady in the past week. Demand for traditional breed calves is stemming mainly from both farmers and exporters, which is helping to keep a firm floor under the trade.

The average Angus heifer is making just over €130/head, with stronger calves making over €145/head.

The equivalent bull calf is making from €150 to €170/head, with four-week-old calves making close on €200/head.

Herefords are a stronger trade than Angus calves and are selling from €155 for light heifers to over €190 for better-quality types and from €200 to €250 for bulls. Friesian bull calves have seen prices improve slightly and the main supply are selling mainly from €80 to €100/head.
