Last week’s sheep sale at Manorhamilton Mart in Co Leitrim saw a sharp increase in prices over the previous week.

Prices have been rising week on week over the last three weeks, but the largest jump occurred last week.

In terms of prices, factory lambs saw the largest lift, with prices rising by €6 to €7/head. Factory agents were more active, as were buyers of heavy lambs.

This pen of 34 light crossbred lambs sold for €68 each.

The main run of lambs over 45kg sold from €100/head to €105/head. Heavier types made over €110/head. Store lambs were said to be an improved trade also, with farmer buyers still very active for all types.

There were some light horned lambs on offer. These were a steady trade, with little to no change in the prices paid for these. Short-keep stores from 35kg to 38kg sold mainly from €78 to €80/head, which is up a few euros per head on the previous week.

This pair of store lambs sold for €81 each.

Stores from 30kg to 35kg were met with stronger demand and improved prices also. These sold mainly from €70 to €75/head, with some making up to €77/head.

This pen of crossbred store lambs sold for €78 each.

The cull ewe trade was strong also. Prices were up slightly on the previous week.

Commission rates are €1.20 to the buyer and €1.50 to the seller, but larger entries attract lower commission rates.
