This Wednesday 14 April at 7.30pm, Foróige, the national youth development organisation, is hosting an online career coaching clinic.
The focus of this event will be on the array of career opportunities available within Ireland’s agricultural and veterinary medicine industries.
Although the organisation is targeting the event towards teenagers aged 15 and above, adults who want to change their career path or who have an interest in either industry are welcome to register also.
As we all know, over the past year, many young people have missed out on secondary school work placements that they would traditionally have experienced in transition year or fifth year in secondary school.
These valuable placements were important for personal development, Leaving Certificate subject and third-level course choices.
In turn, these placements often have an impact on career choices.
The aim of the Foróige online clinic is to try to compensate for this missed opportunity, as the interactive event will demonstrate that career paths can vary.
It will allow participants an opportunity to hear different professionals within the inter-connected fields of agriculture and veterinary medicine.
The Panel
First up on the panel is Andrew Corbett, who studied for his degree in veterinary medicine at University College Dublin.
Andrew now works in a mixed animal veterinary practice and is keen to share his experience of the industry so far.
Seo McGrath is a dairy farmer from Co Wicklow. As someone who has worked in the dairy industry his whole adult life, Seo will also tell his story of career progression over the years.
Participants will also hear from agricultural professional Eoin Lowry. From worldwide experience with the Irish Farmers Journal team and his extensive background in the fertiliser industry, Eoin is now head of agriculture at Bank of Ireland.
Encouragement
As well as hearing the panel's real stories of educational and career development, the virtual career coaching clinic will allow and encourage participants to ask the panel questions about professions they may be considering for the future.
Organised by qualified and experienced youth workers from Foróige, this event will be delivered in a professional capacity and is not to be missed, as it aims to inform, encourage and inspire the next generation of agricultural enthusiasts.
