Farm organisations have criticised milk processors for failing to increase the October milk price. Dairygold is the latest processor to announce it will be holding its price at 27.69c/l excluding VAT.

Kerry announced an unchanged base price for October milk at 27.9c/l excluding VAT and Lakeland set its October milk price at 28.75c/l excluding VAT. Glanbia held its price at 27.5c/l.

ICMSA dairy chair Ger Quain questioned how it is possible for the biggest milk processor in the state to be 2.5c/l below the price that the Ornua PPI index shows, and outlined that the indicators show an upward trend.

IFA dairy chair Tom Phelan also challenged October milk prices and said farmers were concerned about the effect it would have on spring milk cheques. In New Zealand this week, dairy prices rose 1.7% at Tuesday’s Global Dairy Trade auction, with powders once again driving the increase.
