The Comber Potato Festival takes place this Saturday 7 June in Comber Square, Co Down, from 10am to 5pm.

Showcased at the event will be Comber Earlies, produced by Comber Earlies Growers Co-operative, a group of 12 potato growers from around Strangford Lough, who work together to improve the marketing of the product.

In 2012, they received Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status from the EU for their potatoes. Only potatoes harvested in the area in May, June and July are eligible for the status.

Admission to the event is free, with produce showcased in the Food NI cookery theatre by a number of top local chefs.

There will also be an artisan food fair and a kids’ village.
