The past week has seen a few dairy sales take place around the country. While numbers are low so far, demand is quite steady and prices overall are on par with last year.
Young in-calf heifers are selling mainly from €1,150 to €1,450, with light young heifers and those with little figures making the lower prices. Better-quality stronger aged heifers are selling mainly from €1,250 to €1,400, with better prices of over €1,600 paid for top-quality pedigree lots.
Where in-calf cows are offered for sale, buyers tend to prefer second calvers, with mixed demand and lower prices offered for older cows. Cows in the main are selling from €1,000 to €1,200. There have been some farm-to-farm sales of 2017-born maiden heifers. Prices are ranging mainly from €700 to €800, depending on age and quality, with little demand for light heifers that are under target.
