An extension to the closing date for locally led proposals on a scheme to rewet farmed peatland has been announced by Minister of State for agriculture Pippa Hackett.

The current closing date of 23 October has been extended by two weeks and applications will now be accepted up to 5pm on 6 November.

The rewetting of peat is seen as an important measure by some to aid carbon sequestration. However, it has been met with a mixed response from some farmers.

As previously reported by the Irish Farmers Journal, the scheme will be in line with Ireland's proposals under the next CAP submission.

Submissions

The proposal process is an open call under the Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Programme using the European Innovation Partnerships (EIP) initiative model.

The open call will focus on drained peatland in the midlands. For further information on the open call, you can access the Department of Agriculture website here.

Proposals are to be submitted to EIP@agriculture.gov.ie.
