Proposals from the European Commission to introduce pre-movement bovine Tuberculosis (bTB) testing for cattle that have not been tested within six months, are yet to be finalised and will not apply until April 2021 at the earliest. The proposals were set out in an EU-wide consultation which opened to response on 5 June 2019.

Farm groups, including the Ulster Farmers’ Union and the Irish Farmers’ Association, were opposed to many of the proposals, including compulsory pre-movement testing.

On enquiry, a DAERA spokesperson pointed out that the new regulations have not yet been finalised.

“Its final form will be informed by the relevant EU public consultation, which closed on 3 July, and the Department is liaising closely with counterparts in Defra and the other devolved administrations in relation to it.”
