IFA sheep chair Sean Dennehy said his association and Coillte had agreed to work together to encourage responsible dog ownership and reduce attacks on sheep flocks in the Dublin Mountains.

The issues of dogs let loose by walkers using forest walks came up at a recent meeting between the two organisations.

Responsibilities

The IFA raised the problem of dogs repeatedly attacking sheep in the area.

Dehenny said Coillte agreed to increase the signage informing dog owners of their responsibilities and the need to keep their dogs under control at all times, and to improve fencing where necessary.
