Farm leaders have reacted scathingly to Budget 2022.

Despite key farm schemes such as BDGP, TAMS, GLAS and ANC, worth at least €630m, being maintained farm leaders are underwhelmed.

A VAT flat payment cut will also cost farmers €7m.

The carbon tax on fuel increased, as expected, while €49m in carbon tax money moved from farming to the Department of Social Protection, provoking the ire of farmers.

As a result, the IFA has accused the Government of “reneging” on its commitment regarding the €1.5bn carbon tax fund.

ICMSA president Pat McCormack said the budget “fell short” and there was a mismatch between ambitions and supports for farming.

INHFA president Vincent Roddy said the budget called into question the Government’s commitment to a just transition for farmers.

Contractors have warned that the carbon tax hike on agri diesel will add €30m to their bills next year.
