In the past week, some 1,500 Green Low-carbon Agri-environment Scheme (GLAS) payments have been issued, the latest figures from the Department of Agriculture show.

This latest batch of payments shows that around 6,300 farmers have yet to be paid for 2017.

Last week Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed was called to appear before the Oireachtas Committee for Agriculture to explain serious payment delays in the GLAS scheme.

Officials had blamed missing information such as nutrient management plans (NMPs) and commange management plans (CMPs) as to why many farmers had not yet received their 2017 GLAS payments.

A sizeable portion of unpaid farmers are believed to come from Mayo as The Irish Farmers Journal recently reported that of the 5,537 participants involved in GLAS in Mayo, some 1,234 or 22% of these farmers are yet to receive their 85% advance payment.
