MARS, the EU’s crop-monitoring service, has slightly raised its forecast for wheat yields across Europe from 6t/ha to a new forecast of 6.1t/ha. However, MARS has lowered its forecast for yields from this season’s oilseed rape crop down to 3.1t/ha.

The Buenos Aires Grains Exchange has raised its estimate for Argentinian soya bean production in 2019 by 1m tonnes to a new forecast of 56m tonnes. If realised, this would be significantly higher than last year’s failed soya bean crop, which came in at 38m tonnes.

US beef exports for March are estimated at 75,000t. This brings US beef exports for the first quarter of 2019 (Jan-Mar) to 223,000t. This is 7% behind the 241,000t US beef companies exported for the same period in 2018.

Since the outbreak of African Swine Fever earlier this year, Chinese import demand for pork has surged in a bid to fill the supply gap. Pork prices across the world are rising fast in response to this unprecedented demand. It is estimated that China is facing a meat supply shortfall of 14m tonnes.
