After a busy autumn period with bumper cattle sales at Markethill Mart, numbers have steadied, with 660 animals going under the hammer at Saturday’s general cattle sale.

Prices peaked at £1,545 for a 696kg Limousin heifer, with plainer animals selling from 175p/kg to 185p/kg and a steady trade.

Store bullocks sold to a top price of £1,425 for a 698kg animal, with a top price per kilo of 210p/kg paid on a 615kg Blonde D’Aquitaine animal, which made £1,295. Good-quality heavy bullocks typically sold from 190p/kg to 205p/kg.

Mid-weight bullocks sold from 210p to 232p/kg at the upper end of the trade, with a 368kg animal making £855.

Weanlings sold from 210p to 266p/kg, with a 284kg Charolais making £755.
