The past few weeks have seen a strong rebound in lamb prices around the country , which undoubtedly was appreciated by those finishing store lambs, having paid high prices for them in the past few months. The main trade for factory lambs has held steady on the back of firm lamb price quotes from factories.

Heavy butchers’ lambs are a slight bit improved, with a prices up a euro or two. Those over 50kg are selling mainly from €106 to €111/head for good-quality types, with pries of over €115 being paid for top-quality lots. Heavy lambs carrying a little less flesh are making from €98 to €105/head.

Factory lambs have held firm, with those from 45kg to 48kg selling mainly from €98 to €103/head at the upper end of the market and averaging at about €101/head. Under-fleshed lambs in the same weight range are selling mainly from €88 to €95/head, similar to last week.

Store lambs are steady to slightly easier. While there is good demand, some buyers are starting to slacken their activity.

Those from 37kg to 42kg are selling mainly from €76 to €85/head, which is similar to last week. Those from 34kg to 37kg are selling mainly from €74 to €82/head.

Cull ewes remain steady, with good-quality fleshed ewes making from €85 to €95/head and up to €110 in some areas, while plain and thin types are selling mainly from €60 to €75/head.

In the North, the quotes are £3.95/kg to 22kg, up 5p/kg on last week.
