The Irish Farmers Journal is teaming up with University College Dublin and Cormac Tagging to bring you Lambing Live 2019 from Lyons Estate, the UCD research farm, on Monday 11 March.

The event has been co-ordinated by the Irish Farmers Journal and Professor Tommy Boland in the department of agricultural science in UCD.

The aim of the event is to bring people into the lambing shed at Lyons to show what happens at this busy time of year.

To watch all the action from the lambing shed, follow the Irish Farmers Journal Facebook page on the day.

The event will also have a range of expert speakers. There will be five expert panels across the day to discuss both the challenges and the opportunities in sheep farming for the future.

Process

The Irish Farmers Journal specialist team is being led by sheep editor Darren Carty and journal vet Tommy Heffernan.

They will be talking with the team from Lyons estate, including head shepherd Stephen Lott as he guides students through the lambing process.

We will be bringing you lambings and management tips across the day.

Our five panels, coming straight from our Lambing Live studio, will be discussing a huge array of topics and will be a must watch.

Panel one

Tommy Heffernan will be talking flock health to Professor Michael Doherty, dean of the veterinary college, and Marijke Beltman, veterinary specialist and lecturer.

Panel two - technical panel

Darren Carty will be talking to Tommy Boland, Connie Grace and Bridget Lynch, all based in the UCD agricultural science department.

This will focus on production management tips for spring and will also look at what research UCD is doing at the moment.

Panel three

Hannah Quinn-Mulligan will be talking to dean of agricultural science Professor Alex Evans, dean of veterinary medicine Professor Michael Doherty and Agri Aware chair Alan Jagoe.

They will discuss industry challenges and how UCD and Agri Aware can address some of the negative perceptions that are out there.

Panel four

Tommy Heffernan will be chatting to Tommy Boland and some UCD students about student life, what they are learning and their visions for the future of sheep farming.

Panel five

Darren Carty will be talking EAT-Lancet with Tommy Boland and Dr Paddy Wall from UCD.

They will be looking at sheep markets and the future of the sheep industry.

They will also be discussing the health benefits of lamb in our diets.

The event is kindly sponsored by Cormac Tagging, Ireland's leading sheep and cattle tagging company. The team at Cormac Tagging will be joining us on the day to tell us more about what they do.
