DEAR SIR: I would like to bring to your attention yet another nail in rural Ireland’s coffin because of our Government.

We live in a thriving community in west Cavan, of which we are very proud.

Our fantastic secondary school –St Mogues, Bawnboy – has superb teachers and amazing results are achieved annually.

It is at the heart of our community and enrolment numbers increase every year.

With no prior warning or consultation it was decided to close the school, amalgamating it with a bigger one.

It is an absolute disgrace that we in rural Ireland haven’t any say in our lives any more.

It’s not surprising this country has such high levels of crime and antisocial behaviour.

Things will only get worse.
