There will be a series of countrywide meetings for farmers and other member of the community to discuss local water quality in their catchment areas. These meetings are being hosted by Teagasc and will include discussion about potential mitigation measures to prevent nutrient and sediment loss to waters. The meetings are part of the agricultural sustainability support and advisory programme (ASSAP) and is supported by advisors from dairy processing co-ops and scientists from the local authority water programme (LAWPRO).

“It is in all our interests to work together to improve Ireland's overall water quality and the wellbeing of society. It will also help to strengthen farming by underpinning the future development of sustainable Irish agriculture,” said Noel Meehan, ASSAP programme manager.

Meetings are taking place in counties Waterford, Tipperary, Cavan, Mayo and Galway from Tuesday, 11 February, with more to follow.
