Marian Devane, Tuam Mart: Tuesday’s sheep sale saw an increase in the number of heavier lambs on offer, and a reduction in the number of lighter store lambs. The fact that the sales are still very small is helping things, as demand for lighter stores has been a lot lower than last year on account of tight grass supplies. Butchers’ lambs sold mainly from €106 to €115, while factory lambs sold mainly from €97 to €105, with some lighter types making around €95/head. Store lambs were only available in low numbers and farmer demand was poor, but factory agents were active for the heavier stores. Cull ewes sold mainly from €105 to €120 for top-quality types while lesser-quality types made from €90 to €95.
