A new survey commissioned by fast-food giant McDonald’s has found that the vast majority of its customers want locally-sourced food ingredients, particularly beef and eggs.

A McDonald’s survey of 1,000 Irish consumers found that more than three-quarters of respondents (76%) believe it is important for restaurants to source beef from local suppliers. Alongside this, 80% of consumers said it is important for restaurants to use locally-sourced eggs.

Overall, more than half of respondents said they felt it was important for restaurants to use locally sourced food ingredients. The survey also found that 54% of consumers say they have greater appreciation for local food.

McDonald’s published the research as it launched its new ‘Map my McDonald’s’ website, which allows customers to see where McDonald’s ingredients are sourced from. McDonald’s is one of the largest buyers of Irish beef and sources over €200m worth of food ingredients from Irish food companies every year, including Kerry Group, Dawn Meats, Lakeland Dairies, Dew Valley Foods, and Greenfield Foods.
