The farming community is being asked to be aware of additional mental health pressures after a tough 2018.
“Loneliness, stress, depression and money worries are among the issues which affect rural communities and farmers,” said Cindy O’Shea, the director of the Samaritans, adding that they are aware it has been a particularly tough year for farmers.
She urged farmers to contact the Samaritans on the phone (on 116 123).

IFA farm family chair, Caroline Farrell added that the Samaritans provides an anonymous service that has become an important resource for farmers who may feel isolated or depressed.
