I farm: "I farm just over 100ac of grassland outside Swatragh in Co Derry. The farm carries 27 pedigree Limousin cows and around 90 crossbred ewes."

Family: "I am married to Joanne and we have three children, Cara, Kian and Michael."

Building: "Along with running the farm, I also work full-time in the building trade as a brick layer. Thankfully, there is plenty of building work in the local area which makes it much easier for me to combine working full-time with looking after livestock properly."

Pedigree cattle: "I started the Eniver herd with my first heifer in 1998 and built numbers up over the years, while downsizing our commercial herd from 30 cows at the same time."

Online bulls sales: "I had seven bulls to sell this year and entered the best of them in the British Limousin Society’s premier sale in Carlisle for the May bank holiday weekend.

"Due to coronavirus, the sale was changed to online bidding. This put breeders at a disadvantage, as commercial buyers were reluctant to pay big money without seeing bulls in the flesh.

"It takes a lot of time and money to prepare bulls for these sales and unfortunately, the bull didn’t sell, which was disappointing. I will try to sell him from home now."

Home sales: "Thankfully, there is a good market for home sales and I have sold six bulls to local farmers this year. There was some interest in the bull before the premier sale, so hopefully I’ll manage to find a new home for him."

Outlook: "This year is definitely a buyer’s market for stock bulls. There is only a short window for selling bulls in the spring, so without breeding sales, pedigree breeders are finding it tough to sell this year."
