The number of registered raw milk suppliers has more than doubled in the last four years, rising from just eight in 2015 to 22 suppliers in 2018.

Raw milk has always come with various food safety warnings, particularly in regard to pregnant women.

However, consumer demand has created a niche trade from farmers’ markets and direct farm sales.

Since 2015, EU regulations have stipulated that primary producers of raw milk supplying more than 30 litres a week for human consumption or supplying any quantity in excess of a 20km radius of their establishment must be registered with the Department of Agriculture.
