Some 34,517 farmers have applied for the €100m Beef Exceptional Aid Measure (BEAM), the Department of Agriculture has confirmed to the Irish Farmers Journal

The applications will account for approximately €78.1m of the fund.

Some 560 applications to the scheme are currently under appeal. The scheme was extended twice to allow more applications flow into the scheme. Some 70,000 farmers were expected to apply to the scheme.

Eligible suckler cows will receive a €40/head payment, while finished animals are paid at a rate of €100/head. The Irish Farmers Journal understands that the headage payments in the scheme will not be increased to ensure the €100m is spent.

On average, suckler farmers have applied for 14 cows, equating to a payment of €560. On average, finishers have applied for 20 cattle, amounting to an average payment of €2,000.
