Saturday’s sale at Balla Mart saw another large entry of about 1,100 cattle on offer, which were met with very strong demand. With the new safety protocols in place, farmers have made a significant effort in the past few weeks to get cattle penned as early as possible.
Mart staff had penned 900 cattle by 12pm.
Demand in the bullock ring was very strong and many farmers said that the trade was more positive than last Saturday’s sale, with prices up slightly. Again, all good-quality cattle were the best trade, particularly those over 500kg or those with very good conformation.

Again, heavy types over 550kg saw the best demand, with many of these making over €1,400/head. Forward store heifers over 450kg were a very strong trade, with the majority of good-quality types making from €750 to €900 over the weight, with some making €1,000 over and more.
Lighter heifers and plainer heifers were a good trade also, with strong demand driving prices upwards also.
