Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rainfall warning as Ireland looks set to get the tail end of tropical Storm Ernesto.

Up to 20mm of high-intensity rainfall is expected over a short period of time, with the warning in place for 12 hours from Saturday 18 August at 8pm.

Farmers in the south and east of the country will welcome the rain, where rainfall has still been 40-60% below average and grass growth was been impacted, according to Met Éireann.

However, farmers in the north and northwest will not be as happy to see Storm Ernesto.

Rainfall figures are over well above average in those parts of the country, with tillage farmers in Donegal especially fearful for their crops.

Farmers are also warned by Met Éireann that a blight warning is currently in place over the weekend.
