Delays for farmers seeking TAMS approval are to continue into the New Year after confirmation by the Department that tranche 19, which closed in November, is oversubscribed.

In total, 3,223 new applications were received from farmers. However, a further 1,086 applications from tranche 18 were added to the pile, due to that tranche also being oversubscribed.

This means there is now a total of 4,310 applications with a value of over €41.4m for the Department to consider in tranche 19.

Of those, only 70% will secure approval. The remaining 30% will be rolled into tranche 20 for consideration.

Tranche 20 is currently open for applications and will close on 15 January 2021. Once closed, farmers who applied to tranche 20 and those rolled over from tranche 19 will be considered for approval.

The Department has begun notifying farmers whether their application was approved or rolled-over to the next tranche. Farmers have the option to withdraw their application if they have been rolled over and reapply with a new one if they wish.

A number of farmers have pursued this option in previous tranches, in the hopes an amended application will score higher in the ranking and selection process.

TAMS was due to close for new applications at the end of this year. The Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue has since confirmed that it will be extended into 2021 and there will be an opportunity for more farmers to apply.

The Department is yet to release any details about tranche 21.
