The last two weeks, no doubt, have seen the stresses and strains of the Leaving Cert take their toll on the 55,255 students nationwide. The collective relief that comes with finishing is, without question, substantial. However, before students head away to the sun and the sand, one more thing is left to do.

The CAO change of mind facility closes on 1 July at 17:15. This will be, for the most part, a student’s last available opportunity to change the course they wish to do in college. Students can avail of this facility as many times as possible up until the closing date – but not after, pending exceptions. Once this date passes and your CAO application is complete, students can relax for the summer.

The change-of-mind facility is free of charge.

To make changes to your course choices,

a student must:

  • • Login via the ‘My Application’ facility and go to add/change course choices.
  • • Introduce all of your courses on the ‘New List’ in your preferred order of preference, remembering to click ‘Continue with course changes’ to save the information.
  • • Check the acknowledgement email sent to the email address you supplied when making your application. Make sure to check that your changes have been recorded completely and correctly.
  • • If you submit a “change of mind”, it cancels and supersedes all the previous course choices in any category in which changes are made. However, choices in the two categories (level 8 and level 7/6) are considered to be completely separate from each other for this purpose, eg a change of level 8 course choices will not affect level 7/6 choices.
  • • If you do not wish to change the courses in one category, do not submit a change. Your original courses in that category will remain unchanged.
  • • Do not mix courses from different categories (level 8 and level 7/6) and make sure to list all of your course choices for the particular category you change.
