The ICSA will hold its presidential election this Thursday 27 June at the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise, Co Laois.

Three candidates – current ICSA animal health and welfare chair Hugh Farrell, ICSA vice-president for Munster Dermot Kelleher, and former beef chair Edmond Phelan – will contest the vote.

Each of the three presidential hopefuls will make a presentation to the association’s 100-strong national executive. This will be followed by a panel discussion.

Voting on the night will be in order of preference, meaning one candidate will be knocked out in the first count and then their second preference votes allocated.

A result is expected by 9pm, a spokesperson for the organisation said.

The man elected will succeed Paddy Kent who resigned in April when he was named as one of five on a replacement list for MEP Mick Wallace.

The new president will be in place from now through to 2021.
