As harvest continues and the biggest crop in the country (spring barley) is being harvested and will be for the coming weeks, make sure you have numbers on your trailers.
In harvest 2024, the Irish Grain Assurance Scheme (IGAS) told farmers that trailer numbers would become mandatory by harvest 2026 as part of the IGAS receiving a gold standard award.
We are now in harvest 2026 and those participating in the IGAS, which is the majority of growers, should have numbers on their trailers or make sure that their contractor has numbers on their trailer.
This is to help with traceability and record keeping along the supply chain.
The trailer number should be visible to the weighbridge operator and be marked on both sides of your trailer. The number will be recorded on the weighbridge docket.

The number should firstly display your IGAS membership number and then the number trailer it is. For example, if your IGAS membership number is 1234 and it is your first trailer, then the number on the trailer should read 1234 – 1.
Trailer numbers can be painted on or stuck on to the side of the trailer – some people have made-up licence plates with the numbers on them.
You can purchase number stickers in your merchants, local hardware shop or online. The number doesn’t need to be fancy – it just needs to be clearly marked on the trailer.
