Brazil – beef exports top 1.7m tonnes in 2020

Brazilian beef exports for all of 2020 stood at a record 1.7m tonnes, which was up 13% on the same period last year. Brazilian beef exporters finished out the year by shipping almost 150,000t of beef to world markets.

Australia – beef exports collapse in December

Australian beef exports for the month of December plunged almost 27% year on year to just over 85,000t. That’s a decline of more than 30,000t on beef exports in the same month a year previous. The drop in beef exports was the result of a sharp drop in shipments to China and the US.

UK – November milk production increases

Milk production in the UK, the third-largest dairy-producing country in Europe, increased almost 2% in November to just under 1.2bn litres. This brings UK milk production for the first 11 months of 2020 to a cumulative 13.7bn litres, which is in line with the same period a year previous.

US – bumper maize crop expected in 2021

The US Department of Agriculture is predicting that US farmers will produce a bumper maize (corn) harvest in 2021 that will be close to 370m tonnes in size. If realised, this would be a huge increase on the 346m tonne maize crop produced in the US this year.
