The beef and dairy calf registrations for each county are shown on the map. It also features the counties that are highest populated with each breed. It is no surprise that many of the counties match their pedigree population to the market.

We see Cork has the highest number of pedigree registrations for Angus and Hereford, two breeds well associated with the easy-calving, short gestation dairy market.

Similarly, west Clare has the highest number of pedigree Limousins and Mayo has the highest number of pedigree Charolais.

Both of these counties, as well as many other western counties see beef registrations in excess of 70% of their total calf registrations, with the majority using a continental bull.
