Equipeople is launching a brand new programme aimed at the equi-business sectors.

The company, which welcomes around 700 students to Ireland annually, is seeking to expand its host-base to accommodate a large number of students from European countries, in particular Denmark, who are keen to travel to Ireland to learn about the business side of the Irish equine industry.

“An extra pair of hands for a business can be absolutely invaluable,” says Equipeople’s programme co-ordinator, Trish Clark. “Students can take on some of the day-to-day tasks from other members of staff, freeing them up to concentrate on things that ordinarily they don’t have the time to get to.”

Learning experience

“Students want to learn about all aspects of business - from administration, marketing, or financial management, to research and development, nutrition or logistics.

“They can help to ensure the smooth running of the office, with secretarial duties, booking in animals, greeting clients, preparing food or beverages for events or conferences or helping out on show days in fact the more variety, the better” says Clarke.

Equipeople currently has around 350 hosts throughout Ireland, many of whom have been part of their programmes for over a decade.

The students who will travel to Ireland for a minimum of three weeks on their placements, normally stay with an owner or employee of the business with which they are placed, or alternatively could stay with one of Equipeople’s network of host families. They contribute €175 per week towards their accommodation, meals and, if necessary, transport to and from their placement.
