The European Commission will conduct a farming census in 2020, with up to 10.5m farmers expected to take part.

Farmers will be asked about farm size, the number of people working on farms, their age and gender.

Other questions on the census will include the level of training attained by farm managers, questions on animal housing and information on slurry management.

For the census, enumerators will contact farmers over the internet, by telephone, by letter or through face-to-face questioning.

The census will take place in Ireland from June 2020 until January 2021. Results of the census are due to be published in the second half of 2022.
