Veterinary medicines have been granted a “critical goods” status by the UK government in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Additional space has also been procured on government ferries to reduce the possibility of animal medicine shortages which face “significant disruption” according to a statement from the UK Veterinary Medicines Directorate.

“Contracts have been secured with Brittany Ferries and DFDS to run ferries into and out of Poole, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Immingham and Felixstowe.

“This gives suppliers the option to use alternative ferry routes avoiding the Dover-Calais (short strait) crossing where there is potential risk of significant disruption,” a UK government document said.
