US – beef exports rise in June

US beef exports for the month of June increased 3% on the same month last year to stand at just under 119,000t. This brings US beef exports for the first half to the year (Jan-Jun) to 650,000t, which is down 2% on the same period last year.

New Zealand – beef exports to the US fall

In July, New Zealand beef exports to the US stood at just 9,600t, which is a 50% drop on the same month last year. New Zealand’s share of the US beef import market has dropped from 43% last year to just 30% this year. Instead, New Zealand is shipping far more beef to China.

Russia – forecast lowered for wheat harvest

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has lowered its forecast for wheat production in Russia this season to 73m tonnes. This is 1.2m tonnes lower than the USDA’s previous forecast. The Russian ministry for agriculture forecasts the 2019 wheat harvest at 75m tonnes.

Uruguay – beef exports to China rise

The dependence of Uruguay’s beef industry on China only continues to grow. For the first seven months of 2019 (Jan-Jul), Uruguay has exported almost 200,000t of mostly frozen beef, with more than two-thirds (68%) shipped to China.
