Patrick Kent has been re-elected as president of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers association (ICSA). The sitting president narrowly held off the challenge of Seamus Sherlock.

Kent is a cattle and sheep farmer from the New Ross area of Co Wexford and now will serve a third and final two-year term.

The vote took place last week among the national executive, with Kent prevailing by 52 votes to 49.

He said: “The immediate priority is to get fodder to farmers in border and western regions. ICSA is actively sourcing fodder to help and is also pushing for Government assistance in the form of transport subsidies and meal vouchers. Further down the line, Mercosur and CAP reform will be critical issues in 2018.”
