Four bidders took part in an online auction last week for 82.9ac at Ballaghmore Lower, near Borris-in-Ossory, Co Laois.

The sale was handled by Property Partners Mansfield.

A standout point of the holding is that it has frontage on to three roads.

Auctioneer Billy Mansfield said that the bidding opened at €775,000 and progressed to €830,000.

Bidding then halted for some 30 minutes before resuming. The final price was €1,115,000.

Winning bidder

The winning bidder was a Dublin-based solicitor buying in trust for a client.

It is understood that the ultimate buyer is a retired businessperson with Laois connections.

Property Partners Mansfield will hold another online farmland auction on 29 May.

The property for sale then is 15.75ac at Aghaboe, near Ballacolla.

The land is in one block, in grass and is described as good-quality land.

The auctioneer is guiding this property at €12,000/ac to €12,500/ac.

Billy Mansfield said that there is great interest in farmland at the moment.

“There’s great interest for buying or for long-term leasing. We have a number of clients on our books waiting to be called when a suitable property comes up. They want to buy before it goes to auction.”
