Kverneland to showcase new 864 bale chopper

Kverneland will be showcasing its new 864 bale chopper at this year’s Ploughing in Screggan, Tullamore. The Kverneland 864 is a bigger machine than previous models, with 25% extra capacity. The 864 has a load capacity of 2,000kg, which is 300kg more than the Kverneland 853 bale chopper.

The 864 offers significantly higher throughput and blowing distances of up to 25m.

Kverneland will also be bringing a number of tub feeders to this year’s Ploughing, including single- and twin-tub feeders.

The shortage in fodder around the country has forced many farmers to try to maximise what they have more efficiently

Given the challenging weather in 2018 and its impact on fodder supplies in the country, many farmers may be looking at winter feeding machinery for the first time.

“We’ve had a lot of enquiries lately from farmers after the year we’ve had,” said Paraic McCarthy, product manager with Kverneland Ireland.

“The shortage in fodder around the country has forced many farmers to try to maximise what they have more efficiently. So Kverneland will be bringing our range of tub feeders and bale choppers to this year’s Ploughing to give farmers options,” he said.

Prices for Kverneland feeders start from €26,220 RRP (plus VAT) and rise depending on the level of specification the farmer wants on the machine. Kverneland Ireland’s stand will be at Block 3, row 17, stand 355 of this year’s Ploughing.

IAM Machinery to bring diet feeder and forage wagons

The self-propelled Verti-Mix SF 2002 developed by Strautmann.

IAM Agricultural Machinery, the Kilkenny-based machinery importer and distributor, will be bringing a range of diet feeder and forage wagon options to this year’s National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Tullamore.

IAM, which has been the distributor of Strautmann machinery in Ireland since 2000, will be bringing a range of the manufacturer’s diet feeders to Screggan, including the self-propelled Verti-Mix SF 2002 (22m3).

The 2002 is the flagship machine of Strautmann’s diet feeder range, which the company says reduces the daily cost of mixing rations to feed animals while also providing a superior level of mix consistency.

“The main saving benefit of the 2002 comes from dispensing with the need for a loader or loader/tractor, tractor or trailed feeder wagon by replacing it with a self-propelled unit,” said Pat Kenny, sales and business manager with IAM.

Saving in feeding time

“Furthermore, a 25% to 30% saving in feeding time is commonly achieved from the reduced travelling back and forth to the clamp as the 2002 is able to collect exactly what is required in one go.

''The fast-mixing action of the Vario2 auger, coupled with the fact that all the silage is milled as it is collected, also speeds up the mixing process,” he said.

Ahead of the 2019 silage season, IAM said it will also have the Giga Vitesse 3602, which is the latest forage wagon on offer from Strautmann, on display at this year’s Ploughing.

Located at row 21, stand 452, IAM will also have its other range of agricultural machinery brands on display, including Hardi, Rabe Machinery, Bomford Turner and Gregoire Besson.

Alltech and Keenan to hold winter feed and nutrition clinics for farmers

The Keenan MechFiber 345.

Animal nutrition group Alltech and its subsidiary company Keenan will host one-to-one nutrition clinics at this year’s Ploughing to provide livestock farmers with solutions and advice on issues such as feed budgeting, alternative forages and winter feeding.

“After a tough year of extreme weather conditions, careful and proactive planning is more necessary than ever before,” said Catherine Heffernan, operations manager of Keenan InTouch.

“That’s why we are making our skilled team of nutritionists available to speak with farmers on an individual level about their concerns and the challenges they are facing this winter,” she added.

Survey

Alltech and Keenan carried out a survey during August of 10% of Keenan InTouch customers in Ireland to determine the severity of the feed shortage facing farmer customers this year.

The results of the survey show more than 80% of farmer customers are short on feed in the lead-up to this winter, with the average farm over 30% deficient on forage requirements.

The survey also revealed that 46% of farmer customers have additional on-farm forage options outside of silage. Despite this, 80% of respondents to the survey plan to buy in alternative forage this winter to fill the gap.

Keenan will be showcasing its selection of mixer wagons from its MechFiber range at this year’s Ploughing, including the self-propelled MechFiber 345 and the MechFiber 365.

The company will also have the MechFiber 320 on display, which is one of its most popular machines.

Keenan will also be showcasing its VA2-24S twin-auger vertical mixer at Screggan this year.

Extensive range of Abbey diet feeders at the Ploughing

Abbey Machinery will have an extensive suite of diet feeders on display to show farmers the various alternatives.

Michael O’Grady, sales, marketing and business development manager from Abbey Machinery, said he is looking forward to meeting farmers on the Abbey stand at block 2, row 20, stand 427.

“This has been a challenging year for fodder on farms across the country and the challenges are still not over as farmers look for every available option to bridge feed and fodder gaps,” according to Michael.

Diet feeding solutions

“Many farmers will be looking for diet feeding solutions to mix complementary feeds and drive animal output,” he believes. For this reason Abbey Machinery will have an extensive suite of diet feeders on display to show farmers the various alternatives. “Models include VF1250 (single-auger); VF1500 (twin-auger); VF2450 Plus (twin-auger) and VF3350 (tri-auger),” said Michael.

“As farmers have scaled up significantly across Europe and beyond, there has been a growing demand for larger capacity mixer wagons – for this reason the tri-auger feeder, complete with steering axle, wide variety of feed out-doors etc will be on display.”

Abbey is launching a Plus range of feeders starting from VF2450 (which will be on display) with added features for what is claimed will be improved performance.

Starting prices

Starting prices for the different models are:

  • VF1250: €25,500;
  • VF1500: €31,750;

The Hi-Spec vertical auger range of feeders is available in both single and twin auger variants.

Jim Nolan from Hi-Spec said the company will have a V12 single auger and a twin auger T20 vertical auger feeder on display.

“The Hi-Spec vertical auger range of feeders is available in both single- and twin-auger variants with sizes from 7m3 up to 32m3,” according to Jim.

He said the vertical auger range uses a low-pitch mixing and chopping auger that creates a simple cycle action and is fitted with eight self-sharpening knives.

“A specific feature is its ability to quickly and efficiently incorporate complete bales into the mix, due to the unique knife arrangement, which also allows the vertical auger mixer to be used with lower horsepower tractors.”

The V12 model on display will feature a bale ring, two side feed-out doors and a two-speed reduction gearbox.

Redrock has three types of feeder on show

Redrock Machinery Ltd will have three types of feeder on display at the Ploughing.

Redrock Machinery will have three types of feeder on display at the Ploughing: the 20m3 vari-cut paddle feeder, the 14m3 single-auger tub feeder and the 20m3 twin-auger tub feeder.

Mark Linden from Redrock Machinery said the Redrock mixing rotor turns clockwise and the material is gently passed through the cutting system while it is mixing. When the machine is discharging, the rotor turns anti-clockwise.

“The reverse mix action ensures a perfect, even, fluffy mix. The Redrock paddle-type mixing rotor mixes wet materials, such as root crops etc, without crushing them, so they retain their full feed value,” claimed Mark.

The capacity of the series Vari-Cut mixer feeders starts at 12m3 right through to the very substantial 30m3 mixer feeder.

“With the redesigned rotor, these machines are operated at low revs and require less horsepower, resulting in a more fuel-efficient feed,” Mark said.

The main features of the Redrock VM twin-auger feeders are the large mixing volumes which can be mixed at one time, large discharge doors and allow consistent discharge and more efficient chopping between augers.

Twin-auger machines are available from 16m3 to 24m3, with larger machines available on request. Redrock will be at block 2, row 19, stand 396.
