McHale are set to introduce a new range of V8 variable chamber balers to complement its existing V6 variable chamber range. The existing V6 range is capable of making bales from 0.6m-1.68m, while the new V8 range can produce a bale from 0.6m-1.9m in diameter.

McHale say the V8 was designed, built and tested with the help of and predominately for customers in markets such as UK, Australia, America, France and Poland, with the goal of producing a variable chamber baler with a larger diameter bale. The Mayo firm has said the new range has undergone three years of testing.

For the 2021 season, McHale will offer the new V8 range, made up of two models- the V8940 non-chopper baler and the V8950 15-knife chopper baler. McHale say that the increase in bale size (up to 1.9m) and improved density means the V8 baler can produce bales with up to 30% more crop in a 1.9m bale then what is achievable in a 1.68m V6 bale. Visually, the new range feature a new look with twin skin durable panels that open upwards for better access to components.

Pick-up

All V8 balers feature a new pick-up with either a five tine bar cam track or a six tine bar cam-less option with a double crop roller. McHale claim to have increased the size of the lateral feed augers and the rotor diameter to improve intake. The angle at which the floor is positioned has also been redesigned for better crop flow. The V8 range come with a new ‘Adaptive Intake’. McHale say this allows for better crop intake, a reduced chance of blockages while the floor automatically adjusts to allow the machine to better handle uneven swaths.

The V8 range features two models- the V8940 non-chopper baler and the V8950 15-knife chopper baler.

With all 15 knifes engaged on the V8950 chopper baler, it offers a theoretical chop length of approx 65mm. An optional selectable knife system is available which consists of two knife banks that allow for various configurations (0, 7, 8, or 15 knives).

Chamber

The netter features endless net adjustment with capacity to take rolls of net up to 1,310mm in width and 180° wrap around on the feed roller to prevent any net slippage while feeding.

The range come fitted with three heavy-duty endless belts. The V8940 & V8950 balers can make a bale from 0.6m (2') to 1.98m (6' 3"). The bale size on both machines can be adjusted up from the minimum setting in increments of 10mm (2/5").

The V8940 models are fitted with a Primary Drive to aid belt and material rotation. While V8950 balers have a secondary drive fitted. In difficult conditions, should the primary drive slip, the secondary drive will engage to ensure material rotates in the chamber.

Control console

The V8 range is fitted with a new Expert Plus control monitor with a large graphic display. From the monitor, the operator can adjust core size and bale size, core density and bale density, and the revolutions of net being applied. A new bale shape indicator provides a more accurate reading of the bale shape.

Bale kicker

A heavy-duty telescoping channel type bale kicker allows for a clean transfer between the baler and the netted bale. Machines are fitted with a bale discharge sensor, which notifies the driver when the bale has left the bale chamber and has passed over the bale kicker.
