Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed is meeting with the farm organisations present at the beef industry talks and Meat Industry Ireland (MII) individually ahead of a group discussion as a third round of talks continue at Backweston.

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that MII met with the minister first, before he sat down with representatives of the Beef Plan Movement. This was followed by meetings with the IFA and the other farm groups present.

The Department of Agriculture has requested a media blackout until talks are over, the Irish Farmers Journal understands.

It is expected that Minister Creed will convene all parties once he has spoken to them separately to find a resolution.

Agenda

Top of the agenda on Tuesday was the 30-month rule, 70-day residency rule and the so-called four-movement rule.

The Beef Plan Movement wants the three items to be discussed at length, saying it is open to dialogue on what it sees as trade blocks for farmers.
