TAMS II rules for young farmers will not be relaxed according to the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed.

Minister Creed was responding to a parliamentary question from Fine Gael TD Brendan Griffin.

In response Minister Creed said: “There are no plans to change the eligibility criteria for the Young Farmer Capital Investment Scheme of TAMS II, specifically the five-year rule.

17,221 TAMS approvals have been issued

“Applications are currently accepted from young farmers who commenced farming during the five years preceding the date of application.”

Young farmers can avail of a 60% grant as opposed to a 40% grant under TAMS.

The minister pointed out that anyone who did not meet the eligibility criteria could still avail of the 40% grant option.

To date 17,221 TAMS approvals have been issued to farmers by the Department of Agriculture. Some 6,227 payments have been made, amounting to €90.9m.
