A group of 20 members of the IFA led by its president Francie Gorman have gathered to protest outside the head office of Bord Bia in Dublin this Monday morning.
The protest centres around revelations that came to light last week that’s the Bord Bia chair Larry Murrin’s company Dawn Farm Foods imported Brazilian beef in 2025.
On Thursday last, the board of Bord Bia decided to support Murrin in his position, however this support was not unanimous and the IFA president, who is a member of the board, had called for Murrin’s resignation.
'Untenable'
Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal at the protest, Gorman said Murrin’s position is “untenable” given that his company imported Brazilian beef last year.
“We’re here because we’re extremely annoyed and angry that the chairmanship issue hasn’t been sorted out.

“To be clear, this isn’t about anything else other than Bord Bia. It’s dragging the reputation of Bord Bia among farmers and in the wider public through the mud and it needs to be sorted ASAP. Essentially, the chairman has to go.

“The chairman has to be removed, we need a new chairman in place and the issues that came up at the board meeting last week around the wider way of how Bord Bia works and operates they need to be addressed and we need to move on, move forward and make sure that the credibility of Bord Bia isn’t damaged any further,” he said.
When asked if the IFA was willing to stay outside Bord Bia until the chair was removed from his position, Gorman said: “That’s correct.”
