After a bumper monthly milk supply in October 2018, our survey results this week show October 2019 national supply is well back.

Kerry Group is back 7% for October 2019 compared with October 2018. Dairygold is back 6% and Glanbia is back 4%.

Of the rest, Arrabawn is down 3% and Aurivo is down 1.8%, with the west Cork co-ops back by between 8% and 1.5%. Lakeland is on par with October 2018 supplies.

The GDT auction result this week was up 3.7% to average $3,446/t, with whole milk powder jumping the highest, up 3.6% to $3,254/t.

Over the next 10 days, Irish milk prices will be set.

Gerald Quain, ICMSA dairy chair, said: “All co-ops should be paying in excess of 31c/l for October milk. Increasing farmer milk price must be on the agenda of every co-op board as dairy markets have moved on significantly.”
