Tesco has announced higher carcase weight limits for cattle supplied through its Aberdeen Angus premium scheme.

Under the new supply agreement, which comes into effect from 23 August, Tesco will pay premiums to an upper carcase limit of 380kg. Previously, payment was made to an upper limit of 360kg.

For NI beef finishers supplying cattle into the scheme, base prices will continue to sit in line with base prices paid in England and Wales.

Maximum

The maximum available bonus of 40p/kg is payable on steers and heifers weighing 290kg to 350kg under 24 months of age.

Cattle must also have a conformation grade of O or better with a fat class of 2, 3 and 4.

A bonus of 35p/kg is payable on steers and heifers weighing 260kg to 290kg and 350kg to 380kg at the outlined grades.

Cattle must be slaughtered through the Foyle Food Group.
