EL. Why use a broker?

EG. There are many benefits. We can offer greater choice of cover. We go through all the benefits and conditions to ensure the quotation we are offering suits your needs. Then there is price. We have built up relationships with insurance companies and work with them to ensure you are getting the best deal year on year. We work for the farmer and not an underwriter so we will do our very best to ensure the farmer gets the service, especially when it comes to claim handling. We minimise the stress to the farmer and deal with every aspect of a claim in-house.

But does a broker cost more rather than dealing direct?

People think using a broker costs more and sometimes this is the case but more often than not as a broker we avail of discounts to offer a farmer a better price with broker fees absorbed.

How many insurance firms for farmers do you work with?

We shop all three broker farm insurers – Aviva, AXA and Zurich.

How can a broker save a farmer money on farm insurance

  • We will discuss in detail your farming activities so we can pinpoint what elements of cover are important to you and design the farm package for you.
  • We work with the underwriters and having built a great rapport with all three we will offer you the most competitive quotation for the right cover.
  • In a claims scenario, we do the leg work and liaise back and forth with the claims handler on the farmer’s behalf. Time is money, and with a broker on your side we take on the burden of the claim process
  • Renewals and mid-term alterations – it is our job to negotiate with the insurers to get the best price. If this means changing suppliers we will do this and go through everything with the farmer.
  • If your current insurer can’t cover an element of your farm you are not stuck. As a broker is not an underwriter or tied agent, getting a no from one underwriter means we will discuss it with all underwriters available to us in the hopes of getting a yes.
  • What if I have a claim with a broker?

  • Claim handling is one of the main reasons people choose the broker market.
  • Dealing with a broker means we can offer you advice, liaise with the underwriter/claims department on your behalf and do all the leg work.
  • Why are insurance costs going up?

Currently it is the claim and awards nature of the business that is increasing costs, along with underwriters leaving the market.

How can I save on my insurance?

Take the time to identify where the risks are within your farm and try to minimise them.

For example, a farm insurer will offer a discount should you have a proper handling facility in place for your livestock, take precautions when handling slurry, ensure your machinery are in good working condition and properly guarded and so on.

What other benefits do brokers provide?

You will not be dealing with a call centre but a broker’s office with a dedicated farm team.

We offer a direct-line service where you can get in contact with the farm handler immediately.
