Rain is expected to become widesread overnight, according to Met Éireann.

A wind warning is in place for most of the west and northwest of the country, with gusts of up to 130km/h expected in Donegal and Mayo.

Friday will be cold and showery, with hail and thunder forecast for the west of the country.
