The Department of Agriculture has said that the consultation on the Irish whiskey technical file will start as soon as is practical.
Last week, the Irish Farmers Journal reported that the consultation was delayed as it had been expected to start in late 2025.
“The consultation process on the Irish whiskey technical file will commence as soon as practical in 2026,” the Department said. “This is a large piece of work and thus extra time is needed to complete it.

“The original timeline was an indicative one and we felt the need to extend it which often happens in works like this.”
