The German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that the trade deal between the USA and Europe (TTIP) will not be concluded before the outgoing US President, Barack Obama, leaves office.
“I have always been strongly engaged for a conclusion of a trade deal with the United States. We have made a lot of progress on the negotiations, but it will not be concluded now,” she said, at a joint press conference with Obama on Friday, who is on a tour of Europe. “But we will keep what we have achieved so far, and I’m absolutely certain one day we will come back to what we have achieved and build on it.”
A recent study by the European Commission showed the impact of proposed trade agreements with the US (TTIP), the Mercosur bloc of South American countries and 10 other partners by 2025. They revealed a devastating cumulative impact on the beef sector, while the dairy and pig sectors would gain.
