Weather is the talking point on most farms in the country at present and on Tullamore Farm it’s no different.

Calving has crossed the half way mark, with over 50 cows calved. There have been just two mortalities so far – one, as previously reported, at the beginning of calving and one very hard pull with a large calf last week. Other than that, calving has been going extremely well.

The only negative has been the weather. Housing space has become extremely tight, with over 50 young calves in the yard, as well as the recently housed flock of ewes.

Thursday was a fine day weather-wise, so it offered an opportunity to let calves out.

Getting 24 hours of good weather under their belt should stand them in good stead, but, with another storm forecast this weekend, it will be touch and go as to whether they can remain out.
